Molluscum Contagiosum

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral skin infection caused by the molluscs contagious virus and characterized by small, raised bumps on the skin.

SOLUTIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Wait and monitor: In many cases, molluscum contagiosum will resolve on its own without treatment. However, this can take several months to years.

  • Curettage: The bumps can be removed by scraping them off with a small instrument called a curette.

  • Cryotherapy: Similar to wart treatment, liquid nitrogen can be used to freeze and destroy the molluscum lesions.

  • Topical treatments: Certain creams or solutions containing chemicals like cantharidin, podophyllotoxin or imiquimod may be prescribed to apply directly to the lesions.

Remember, these are general treatment options, and the most appropriate approach will depend on factors such as the location, size, and number of warts or molluscum lesions, as well as individual patient considerations. It's important to consult your dermatologist for proper diagnosis and guidance on the most suitable treatment for your specific condition.
