Dupuytren’s disease is a process which leads to contractures of the fingers and sometimes the thumbs. The exact cause is often unknown but as the contractures get worse, so does the functional limitation. Dupuytrens disease can start as small hard lumps in the palm of the hand which then turn into cord like structures. There are a number of ways to treat the contractures and remove the cords. Your surgeons will discuss the options that are available to you at your initial consultation.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
